Heritage Retreats, Fontana, Lake Geneva
There are only so many fancy stitches and stickers in this world. When it's time to take a break from crafting, you won't have to look far. While Fontana (full-time population: 2400) lies on the "quiet side" of Geneva Lake, many year-round attractions are a short walk away. Be sure to ask the Noyers, your hosts, for suggestions.
Heritage House is on Main Street, not far from a number of restaurants, a world-class spa, antique/vintage shops and more. Be sure to stroll over to the Abbey Resort boutiques just a block away.

Wintertime R&R around the lake
Lakeside, peek outdoors in January and you might see an iceboat regatta or a few anglers. If you're hardy, venture a walk along the public lakeside path to see the second, third or fourth homes of the super rich – Fontana's lakefront is dotted with fine estates. If you are very fit and the weather cooperates, the 26-mile path circles the lake.
For a little more sizzle drive to Lake Geneva (population: 7200); its downtown has a movie theater, retail/specialty shops, and plenty of bars and eateries including local favorite Popeye's.
